Named for the same Tong Hiang Hwee association that organized Confucius's birthday ceremonies at Boen Bio as early as 1930, this hall became a lifeline during Indonesia's independence war. Based on oral history, it served refuge for Indonesian soldiers hunted by Dutch forces, nursed back to health by locals using their traditional Chinese medicine skill. In the bunker below, weapons looted from the Dutch were hidden away for the Indonesian resistance, guarded outside by the neighborhood's own kung fu fighters. Today, the sinshe tradition that once healed the wounded here has quietly faded, and the hall now serves a far humbler role, storing the kampong's everyday inventory. Its wartime and healing past rest largely unseen beneath ordinary use.
